Los Angeles —  Today, St. John’s Community Health released their annual impact report, which outlines the public health network’s work on the frontlines of COVID-19 in South, Central, and East Los Angeles.

  • The administration of over 450,000 vaccines to date, over 95 percent of which went to people of color and low income families;
  • 40,000 vaccines were given to adolescents at school-based health centers and vaccination pop-up events;
  • Hundreds of infusions and COVID-19 medications given to people at high-risk of hospitalization and death;
  • The opening of Avalon Homeless Service Center, which provides showers, laundry services, hygiene kits, mail service, storage lockers, food pantry, clothing, computer access, and pet kennels and food. Staff members at the center also help patients enroll in programs such as Medi-Cal and Supplemental Security Income benefits, and link them to on-site medical, dental, housing, and behavioral health services;
  • The transition of one of their vaccination mobiles to providing a full slate of primary care services which will provide 4,000 patient visits to Compton residents annually;

“The past year has been a constant juggling of priorities – from making sure we reached communities with barriers to health care, to educating parents about pediatric vaccines, to treating those with serious cases, to continuing primary care and expanding services to serve our most at-risk neighbors,” said Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Community Health. “Efficient and effective health care will require strong partnerships between health care providers, community organizations, and governmental officials – especially as we continue navigating COVID-19 and future pandemics.”
