Los Angeles —  Today, St. John’s Well Child and Family Center provided the following updates around COVID-19:

  • The public health network is planning to soon move their mobile operations to elementary schools in anticipation of 5 and under shots becoming available. They are expecting the first shipment of the vaccine to arrive on Feb 21, and will begin vaccinations for this age group on Feb 22.
  • Pediatric vaccines are still being steadily administered, with 1,153 vaccines administered to kids aged 5-11 just last week.
  • Testing rates have dropped to around 50 per day, and only about 10 percent of those tests are positive.
  • Their clinics are currently administering around 500 vaccinations per day, most of which are booster shots.

“We have substantial proof that being boosted effectively prevents serious illness and fatality, and anticipate a continued steady flow of booster appointments at our clinics,” said Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Well Child and Family Center. “Things like the renewed paid leave legislation passed on Monday in California and LA County’s continued mask mandate are critical in continuing to prevent compounding crises from arising as a result of COVID-19. We need to continue pulling out all public health and economic safety measures to protect people from illness, loss of income, and loss of housing.”
