Los Angeles – Today, St. John’s Community Health released their annual impact report to outline their work in South, Central, and East Los Angeles; the Inland Empire; and the Coachella Valley. This year’s report is particularly notable, as it reflects on the last sixty years of work.

The report can be viewed in full here. Some report highlights include:

The impacts of their street medicine team, which served over 10,000 people experiencing homelessness last year and will expand even more this year.

Their Black maternal health program, which was launched last year and has measurable results already.

The new harm reduction program, which has trained over 1,000 people and distributed almost 4,000 NARCAN kits since its launch last spring.

An interview with Father Warner Traynham, an instrumental figure in expanding the reach and scope of St. John’s Community Health, starting in 1983.

Two brand new clinics opening in the Inland Empire, with two more planned to open in the next year.

“The past 12 months at St. John’s Community Health are marked by an incredible expansion of services, adding to our sixty year legacy of lifesaving, affirming, and culturally competent care,” said Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Community Health. “We are looking forward to continuing to grow and add essential programs that meet the community’s needs – including mitigating the impacts of the climate crisis for our most vulnerable neighbors.

“Community health centers like St. John’s often perform work far beyond medical care, functioning as one-stop shops to meet the basic needs of countless individuals – yet we are often first on the chopping block when it comes to budget cuts. Now more than ever, we need governmental officials and agencies to heavily invest in organizations like ours that are on the frontlines of keeping people alive, healthy, and connected.”
